The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) is the UK’s leading non-academic achievement award for young people. It gives them the opportunity to learn new skills, develop a sense of social responsibility and get active.
DofE helps young people to develop qualities and values that many employers look for – self-discipline, motivation, commitment, determination and many more.
Participants work through 4 sections: skills, volunteering, physical and expedition.
Why choose BXM for DofE
BXM Expeditions is able to offer expeditions for all three levels of the award.
We have always been committed to providing cost effective and ethical expeditions to schools and youth groups. We take a conscious and humanistic approach to all of the work we do here at BXM. As one of the largest approved activity providers in the UK we are now making changes to the way we work and doing our bit to aid the climate crisis we find ourselves in. The tents we supply for participants during their expeditions are made from fully recycled materials, we operate a paperless policy through our BXM Hub management system and our web hosting services are fueled by 100% renewable energy.
At Bronze level, participants will complete an element of training before completing a remotely supervised qualifying expedition. During Silver and Gold level participants take part in training, a practice expedition before finally completing a qualifying expedition.
We work hard to ensure that our DofE expeditions are bespoke to every school. We work closely with our DofE managers to provide a cost-effective and sustainable program for every young person.
For schools
We hold an AALA license and an impeccable safety record. We make conscious decisions to keep our costs to a minimum, so we can provide the best value experience to schools.
DofE managers, parents and young people can be safe in the knowledge that BXM will always have their safety, enjoyment and best interests at heart. Our mission statement is aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals where we can have the most impact. Our output is continually assessed against the goals set out below to ensure we are on track to doing less harm and more good in everything we deliver
Good Health & Wellbeing (3)
Quality Education (4)
Gender Equality (5)
Reduced Inequalities (10)
Responsible Consumption & Production (12)
To further make the award more accessible to young people, we have developed a package available for inner city schools, focusing first on London schools. Urban DofE allows young people to take part in expeditions in their immediate local area at a lower cost with adapted itinerates to achieve the same learning outcomes in a different environment.
